9 October 2022
In line with plan, the green closed on Tuesday 4 October.
Close season renovation work will be carried out by the dedicated in-house team of 'Lawn Rangers' - with the exception of Verti-Draining.
This operation requires specialist equipment - and Sportsground Maintenance & Machinery Limited from Leicestershire will again provide this service.
The in-house team have already scarified, spiked, over-seeded and applied 'top dressing' to the green.
There is still plenty of work to do on the verges, trees, general maintenance, etc. - and volunteers will be most welcome.

Throughout the winter months, the Clubhouse remains open for all social events.

Green Re-opening for 2022 Season
The Club’s bowling green was officially opened for the 2022 season at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday 27 March by the Vice President of the Club - Paul Eason - in front of some 50 members.

It is a tradition stretching back over 100 years, that the ‘first wood of the season’ is bowled by a well-known personality from the city.
This year we were delighted that Twigge from BBC Radio Derby performed the opening ceremony - and went on to bowl a few ends - and say a few well-chosen words.
We are also delighted that Twigge has now joined the Club - and we look forward to seeing him as and when his busy schedule permits.

The bowling surface was treated to an extensive renovation programme over the winter months - and when cut to match height in the next week or so it should be in its best ever condition.

RBC MIXED DOUBLES COMPETITION    Sunday 3rd April 2022

It is intended to be a mixed doubles competition on 3rd April at 1.30pm - which is open to all paid up Full, Associate and Junior members.
Entry £4 per person to be paid on the day.
Partners will be drawn randomly. If you would like to attend the draw please let Paul Eason know.
It is hoped that most pairs will be mixed, but this depends on the number of female players who enter.
All female players will be paired with a male player. If there are surplus male players they will be drawn together.
The competition rules for this event are on the noticeboard in the clubhouse and on this website in the menu 'Competition Rules'.

It is hoped to have tea and the bar open if we have volunteers to help.

8 February 2022
The popular singing group 'Sounds Familiar' have again been booked to entertain us at the Club - on Saturday 29 October starting at 7:30 p.m.

20 January 2022
The formal green re-opening for the new season has been set for Sunday 27 March 2022 at 10:00 a.m. for 10:30 a.m.

A major programme of green renovation, which commenced when the green closed at the end of October 2021, has been carried out by the top professional firm of Sportsground Maintenance & Machinery Limited of Leicestershire. The green is now looking really good - and the start of the new season cannot come quickly enough.

There is a tradition of the formal opening and bowling of the first ball of the season - which stretches back to when the club was first formed over 100 years ago (1918).
Normally, this event is performed by the Mayor of Derby - albeit the earliest photos that can be located are for 26 April 1958 (Click here).

However, this year as a break from tradition, the first bowl will be bowled by Andrew Twigge from BBC Radio Derby.
We are absolutely delighted that Andy has agreed to do this for us - and are really looking forward to having such a great local personality get our 2022 season underway.
