It is a tradition stretching back over 100 years, that the ‘first wood of the season’ is bowled by a well-known personality from the city.
This year we were delighted that Twigge from BBC Radio Derby performed the opening ceremony - and went on to bowl a few ends - and say a few well-chosen words.
We are also delighted that Twigge has now joined the Club - and we look forward to seeing him as and when his busy schedule permits.
The bowling surface was treated to an extensive renovation programme over the winter months - and when cut to match height in the next week or so it should be in its best ever condition.
Mixed Doubles - 3 April 2022
The first competitive game of the season was held on Sunday 3 April.
Fortunately the rain held off - and it was bright and not too cold afternoon.
Many thanks to Paul Eason and Dennis Young for organising / running the competition.
Many thanks to everyone who competed.
Many thanks to Susan West and Sheila Knowles for the excellent refreshments throughout the afternoon.
Many thanks to Philippa Eason for running the Bar.
It was a splendid turnout - and highly competitive as usual.
Thanks to Susan for presenting the prizes - to the Denise Landers and Richard Knowles (Winners) - and Sean Wilkins and Gordon Lawrence (Runners Up)
Well done to newcomer Sean in his first competitive match.
Miranda from Radio Derby - 6 May 2022
Delighted that Miranda from Radio Derby arrived early morning (7:00 a.m.) to do a live broadcast from the Club.
Gerry had arranged the visit and was on hand to welcome Miranda and give her some tuition on Crown Green Bowls - as she had never played before.
She took to it splendidly and is now raring to challenge her fellow presenter Twigge to a one match shoot out. Winner takes all and gets the prestigious bragging rights.
The Queen's Platinum Jubilee - 6 June 2022
A great deal of planning, time and effort went into the event to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
This included the bunting, flowers, food, drinks, games equipment, etc.

The Dickie Cup Final - 28 July 2022
Congratulations to captain Ben Ryder and our Premier Team, who won a hard-fought Dickie Cup final against Horsley Bowls Club.
This took place at the neutral venue of King's Newton Bowls Club on Thursday 28 July 2022.
An enthusiastic crown of some 80 supporters from Rykneld / Horsley were there to see an enthralling and very competitive match.
It was an extremely close finish with Rykneld winning by the very slender margin of 194 points to 192.
This was an historic event for Rykneld - it being the first time that we have won the Dickie Cup.
