End of Outdoor Season 2018
As the season draws to a close both league and internal club matches are now almost complete (just one re-arranged match on 8 Oct. to play).
August into September proved a difficult time for players this year - with afternoon and evening matches still completing their schedules when Floodlit started with both league and cup matches!
Many players were playing 6 matches per week and feeling the strain.
Hopefully SDCGBA will iron this out following the review which is in progress. New systems require time to settle, but the danger will be that members will not sign up for the leagues next year.
There have been some good results with Vets 2 returning to Div. 1 next season and Floodlit 2 coming second. Their prizes will be presented at the SDGBA Presentation evening 24 Nov. @ RR. Ticket only event £5.
We also had success in the Belper League cups when the 'Over 55s A' were Runners up in the league cup and in the Saturday Singles league cup Rykneld B were the runners up too. Well done to all.
There were also some good positions held in other teams too.
The Gold Letter Finals Day was held in mid September and before the buffet, players were presented with their trophies (briefly) which will now go away to be inscribed and presented formally at our Dinner and Presentation Evening, Thursday 15th November 2018. Please make sure you have saved that date on your calendar. Menus are available in the Club House and must be returned (with payment please) to the secretary by 5 November for processing, thank you.

Completion of the Centenary Year.
The activities to mark this Very Special Year have drawn to a close.
The events have been a great success overall and certainly making a ‘one off season’ that will not be repeated in our lifetimes!
It has involved present and past members and revived many memories from photos and the gold letter boards.
Much reminiscing of past achievements and together with news of all our 15 league teams of the present - a lot to talk about.
The weather could not have been more kind to us on each occasion, allowing all the outdoor events to take part as planned. What a relief!

In line with requirements of the Tom Carey Fund, an 'End of Grant' report has been submitted in relation to funding provided in October 2017 - for replacement sleepers around the edges of the green, a SiSIS Auto RotoRake (scarifier) and financial contribution to each of the 5 centenary events. Many thanks to all members for their really positive feedback on what this funding has done for the Club. The Fund Administrators required feedback from just three of the 'beneficiaries' and this has been supplied. We are really grateful for the funding received from the Tom Carey Fund - and look forward to their continued support in the future.

August Events at Rykneld Bowling Club
It has been a very busy month for the Club, with something happening every Sunday, in addition to the Centenary event Number 4 - Former Club Members v Present Members.
On the 5th August we held a Doubles Open Invitation match, where 16 members of Rykneld invited a partner from another Club to play. A round robin format of 12 ends per game worked well and the eventual winners were Gordon Lawrence and his partner Andy Fern and runners up Susan West and her partner Sylvia Hughes.
Several of the ladies managed to juggle catering and playing during the day and the afternoon ended with a light buffet for all.
Our thanks to Gordon and John for the smooth running of the event and to the catering team and to members for the generous donations to the raffle.
The Rykneld Mens Doubles Gold Letter matches were played on 12th August up to final stage with Stuart Brown and Colin McDonald through to play Jamie Brown and Bernard Johnson.
The Gold Letter Mixed Doubles takes place next Sunday pm 26 August 2018 all in readiness for Finals Day on 16th September.
